Issue 01 / public fieldworkAction pack / v0.1

Take a Seat.

Find out where people can stop and rest on a neighbourhood walk. Print four sheets, choose a route and record usable seats and gaps.

Key measureLongest gap between usable seats

Record distance or walking time consistently along one defined route.

Five steps

How to use the guide.

01

Choose one route

Choose a route and pace that suit the participants, with places to rest. Mark the start, finish and why this route matters.

02

Walk at another pace

Move with, or learn from, someone who plans journeys around rest. Do not simulate an experience you can ask about directly.

03

Check seats and access

Log seats, gaps, slopes, shelter, toilets, crossings and places where a person could ask to rest.

04

Invite a host

Ask a shop, library or community room to offer a seat without requiring a purchase. Agree the offer with the host before displaying a sign.

05

Share what you found

Share the route, counts, refusals, responses and limitations. Describe observed changes separately from the number of people reached.

Action pack / four field sheets

Your printable action pack.

01

Route brief

Define the question, route, people and boundaries before walking.

02

Observation log

Record every resting place and gap using one consistent set of fields.

03

Host invitation

Invite a local place to offer one visible, no-obligation resting seat.

04

Response record

Separate participation, consent, response and consequence.

Before you publish

What to keep after the walk.

01

Route

Dated map, start and finish, distance and duration

02

Observation

Every seat and gap logged using the same fields

03

Participation

Number invited, number involved and consent status

04

Response

Hosts asked, accepted, declined or awaiting reply

05

Consequence

What changed, what did not and the next responsible step

This is an open field protocol, not a completed survey. The website collects no route or participant data. Your field team controls consent and publication.
